Agricultural Fertilizer

Scope of Project

Amerish International Corp. can develop and jointly operate a fish fertilizer manufacturing and distribution network for the domestic market.

The development of the project means the following:

  1. Development of the facilities will require the acquisition and installation of processing equipment which will turn waste material from the fish processing factories into a fertilizer.
  2. Training and development of management, mechanical specialists, process plant personnel, and trucking and distribution personnel.
  3. Operating the facilities jointly

Project Concept

Fish offal, or gurry, is that portion of the commercial catch which, when processed for food or consumption, is not consumable. This is roughly 50% of the whole fish. In most commercial processing, the fillets are flash-frozen and the gurry is conveyed to a holding tank. A determination is made, depending on species, seasonality, regulatory constraints as to its disposition. Since in all likelihood it is not refrigerated, it must be dealt with immediately as it will begin to turn quickly. Much of it is being hauled to and disposed of in landfill sites or dumped illegally offshore. Since the nutritional and protein values of gurry approach those of the fillets, there are better uses for it, once it has been stabilized by a hydrolysis process. It is these further uses that present and enormous economic opportunity.

The project is based on an integrated model:

  1. Leverage waste materials as a result of the consumable fish processing industry
  2. Teach proper fish cutting techniques
  3. Show how to reduce processing waste
  4. Demonstrate effective processing of by-products using a hydrolysate process
  5. Create jobs in Senegal
